Barbara Fellows Obituary

 

Barbara Fellows of Brooklyn, MI, formerly of Sullivan County, died Dec. 1, 2019 in Jackson, MI, under the care of Henry Ford Allegiance.  She was born, Barbara Joan McKee in rural Sullivan County on June 12, 1942 to Charles “Bud” McKee and Thelma (Wimberly) McKee.  Barbara also had a special mentor in Bess Booker while growing up.  She attended Pleasantville High School and graduated from  Sullivan High School in 1960.  She attended Indiana State University for one year of nursing before becoming a nurse’s aide.  She later became a clerk for the United States Postal Service and retired after 28 years in 2002.  She continued to work as a home health aide for Home Instead in Jackson, MI.  She also enjoyed working for the Salvation Army ringing the bells several holiday seasons.  She attended Indian Prairie Baptist Church as a young girl and was a member of Vandercook Baptist Church in Jackson.  Her final residence was at Brooklyn Living Center.

 

She was known for caring for people.  She was famous among family and friends for fixing large meals to make sure nobody went hungry.  She enjoyed classic television shows and movies, and listening to classic country and rock and roll, especially Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.    Everyone enjoyed meeting her, and she tried to make everyone feel at home.  She was proud to be from Indiana.

 

Her faith in God was strong and saw her through many challenges throughout her life.  Her family was her first and foremost priority.  She was a loving mother to her son Larry Fellows and his wife Cara Fellows.  She also showed great love and pride for her grandsons Cody and Connor Fellows.

 

She is survived by her immediate family and her siblings: Pauline (Ben) Snyder, Nancy (Roger) Blackwell, Beverly McKee, Janice (James) Schulz, Roger McKee, Joyce Lingle, Jim McKee, Christy (Jeff) Morlock, and numerous nieces and nephews who all share wonderful memories and stories of “AuntBarb”.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Jessie Woodard, Bertie Montgomery, Louella Hise, Mary Poole, Terry “Bill” McKee.

 

Per her wishes, Barbara has been cremated.  A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held in Sullivan, IN.,  at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday December 14, 2019 at Holmes Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Harley Archer officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m until the time of services.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or St Jude’s Hospital, in Barbara’s memory. Envelopes will be at the Funeral Home.
