Charles Hayes Obituary

 

Charles Hayes, 85, of Sullivan, passed away on Thursday September 12, 2019 at Breckenridge nursing home with his family by his side. He was born in Mason County West Virginia on December 7, 1933 to Rueben Hayes and Sarah (Litchfield) Hayes.  Charles was a 50 year member of the Indiana Laborer’s Union Local 204, and had retired as a foreman. He was a family man who loved to go fishing with his loving wife. He also enjoyed gardening and his favorite time of the year was Christmas.  

 

Survivors include his wife of 64 years Nancy (Drinkard) Hayes whom he married on September 3, 1955; his children, Steve Hayes, Jeff Hayes, Amanda (Jacob) Thatcher, Misty (Matt) Grimes, Mindy Hayes; grandchildren, Thomas Edwards, Lee Stone, Taylor Cameron-Stuart, Miranda Stone; sisters, Dorothy Barnett and Ruth Cassell and several nieces and nephews.  

 

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by four brothers, Gilbert, Clyde, James G. and Warren Hayes; and four sisters, Golden Welker, Naomi Relyea, Mary Lou Weethee and Minnie Burris.

 

 

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 17, 2019 at Johnson Cemetery with Rev. Matthew Hayes officiating.  Military services will be given by the Hymera, Shelburn and Sullivan American Legions and the Sullivan VFW. Holmes Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements. Charles was a wonderful friend to all whom he met.
