Kenneth McKain Obituary

Kenneth LaVerne McKain, 89, of Carlisle and formerly of Shelburn, went to be with the Lord on Friday June 28, 2019 at his residence. He was born on April 11, 1930 in Sullivan County to Hezzie B McKain and Ruby (Hanley) McKain. He was a 1949 graduate of New Lebanon High School, he married Wilma L Roberts, on December 14, 1953 in Robinson, IL. He worked for his father on the family farm for five years after graduating. After marrying Wilma, they share cropped on the family farm for 2 years. He worked as a rough neck on C.E. Cricks’s Oil Drilling Rig for 2 months. He and Wilma then moved their family to Morgan County IN. He went to work in Marion County, where he worked 4 and a half years for General Motors in the Allison Division in Indianapolis, as a Milling Machine Operator, General Store Attendant and Inspector in the aircraft division, worked in the wool shed and as janitor at the Indiana Farm Bureau Coop. in Indianapolis for 1 year. Worked 30 and a half years at the Chevrolet Truck Division of General Motors in Indianapolis, IN as a Press Metal worker, Assembler, Inspector and Journeyman Dye Maker. He retired from GM on December 31,1990. 

 

He was a member of the UAW 933 while working at Allison and the United Auto Worker Union 23, during his working years at Chevrolet Motor Division, and continued his UAW membership until his death. He volunteered for 20 years as a leader for Mini, Regular and Jr. leader 4-H clubs in Morgan County, IN. Was a member of Rose Chapel Methodist Church until he transferred his membership to Shelburn United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and on different committees. He recently became a member of Shaker Prairie Church. 

 

He is survived by his wife, they were blessed with four sons, Bruce Allen McKain & Karola of Elizabathtown KY, Charles Ray McKain & Petra of Clarksville TN, Dale Edward McKain & Lori of Carlisle IN, Robbie Lynn McKain and Annette Hawkins, Indian Mound TN, brothers, Manford E McKain and special friend Sarah House, Terre Haute, Allen L McKain and Loretta, Shelburn, a sister Sue Ellen and Billy Ware, Louisville, a sister in-law Beverly McKain, Carlisle, grandchildren, Anja  Sherrard, Karoline Meadows, Kenneth H.L. McKain, Joshua McKain, Eva Behms, Charles Ray Jr  McKain, Lou Anne McKain, Michael McKain, Dorothy McKain, Megan Wiles, Erika Wiles, Kody Wiles Malaci McKain, Chun Pang, Sila & Mike Kim, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

 

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 3, 2019 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Kirk Langston and Julie Putman officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carlisle.
