Marian Lankhaar (81) died at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 25, 2019.
Marian was born May 31, 1938, in West Terre Haute, IN to Harold and Jane Freed Straughan. As a child and young adult, Marian and her family lived in both California and Indiana. She attended high school and college in California, graduating from Citrus College with an accounting degree. She worked as an accountant for Brown, Woodsmall and Hinkle, Sullivan, IN, for decades. They lovingly spent 7 years restoring the Mann Durham home to its former glory. Marian enjoyed hosting many parties and events in her lovely home for her family and friends. Some of her fondest memories include listening to her loved ones gathered around the baby grand piano at Christmas, her favorite holiday.
Marian was known for her quick wit and fun-loving spirit. She was also a passionate and dedicated Purdue fan. To her family, she was known as the keeper of secrets and the source of wise advice. She was devoted, generous and dependable. Marian is survived by her three children, Cheryl Lankhaar (Joe) of Monteagle, TN, John Mitchell Lankhaar (Tracey) of Terre Haute, IN, and Renee’ Englund (Mark) of Hillsboro, OR. She is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
