Matthew Laurel Hardesty, 37, Linton, went to be with the Lord, August 12, 2019. Matt died in a tragic accident on the Cumberland River in Kentucky, doing what he loved, fishing. Matt was born in Sullivan County March 10, 1982 to Larry and Elaine (Marcotte) Hardesty. Matt graduated from Union High School in 2000 and Ivy Tech with an associate degree in electricity in 2005. Matt was a member of the Dugger Masonic Lodge 721 and IBEW Local Union 1393. Matt was an electrician at the Duke Energy Edwardsport IGCC. Matt loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Matt was a true lover of life. His greatest joys were spending time outside hunting, fishing and looking for Indian artifacts. Matt loved his family deeply and his smile would light up a room. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Laurel and Elaine Hardesty, Carlisle, and Frank Marcotte, Dugger.
He is survived by his parents Larry and Elaine Hardesty, Carlisle, his sisters, Jill Snyder (Brent), Carlisle and Laura Brown (Ryan) Vincennes, Indiana. His three beloved nieces, Brenley and Islee Snyder and Mya Brown and one beloved nephew, Nolan Brown and his grandmother Eleanor Marcotte, Sullivan, Indiana.
Services for Matt will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev. Eddie Hammond officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, 4-8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Masonic services will begin at 7 p.m. The family suggests that if friends so desire memorial contributions may be made to Fishing For Freedom, 532 Gardner Expressway, Quincy, IL 62301. This program enables Wounded Warriors to go fishing. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
