Alfred Woodard, 92 of Apopka FL, formerly of Sullivan, Indiana, passed away in Advent Health Care Center in Apopka, FL, on October 30, 2022. He was born in Sanford IN, on February 10, 1930, to Albert Vernon and Lilah Fern (Henson) Woodard. Alfred was an Air Force Veteran, having served in Special Forces in the Korean War. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Al was a supervisor with Amax Coal and retired after 30 years. He also worked for the Railroad, was a volunteer firefighter and involved in various community services. He was a member of the Sullivan Elks, Free and Accepted Masons, and Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Arthur Woodard, a brother William Woodard, a daughter Lynnette Woodard Clay, a stepson Paul B. Clay, and an infant grandson, Daniel.
Al is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara Hollandsworth Clay Woodard . Barbara grew up in Logan County, WV, and is a graduate of Mann High School. Other survivors include a son, Michael Woodard, a stepdaughter, Lynda Clay Tweel and her husband Ron, stepson Charles D. Clay and his wife Patty, stepson Dennis Clay, and sister-in-law Patricia Woodard.. Al was so loved by his grandchildren: Lara Clay Sampson, Jeffrey Clay, Paul (PC) Clay. David Clay, Lona Clay Snodey, Charles J (CJ) Clay, Jennifer Tweel Kelly, Lauren Tweel Oakey, Rebecca Tweel Jolin, and James Clay Tweel. He is also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Services will be at 1:00 on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Cox officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the services. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Carlisle, Indiana. Military services will be given by the Sullivan County Honor Guard. Contributions in memory of Al can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
