Amy Dawn (Powell) Patel (July 31, 1972 - September 16, 2026)

It is with great sorrow that we must announce the passing of a mother, daughter, wife, sister, and friend to many. Amy Dawn (Powell) Patel was born to Paula Sturgeon and William “Bill” Powell on July 31st, 1972 in Sullivan, Indiana. She was known for being a cheerful, athletic, gorgeous, and charismatic young woman in her youth. She grew up in Sullivan, and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1990. She then graduated from Vincennes University in 1992, and from there she was a registered nurse for many years. She saved many lives in her time as a nurse, and she made a lasting impact on every patient who came her way. She was a mother not only to her three biological children, but also to everyone who needed a mother in their life. She loved animals her entire life, and she spent a good portion of her time birdwatching and rescuing strays. Anyone who ever met Amy has at least one story to tell about her, and she will forever be loved by many.

Amy was diagnosed with glioblastoma on March 16th, 2026, and she ultimately passed away at home surrounded by family on September 16th, 2026. She is preceded in death by her father (William “Bill” Powell). She leaves behind her mother (Paula Sturgeon), husband (Pradip Patel), children (Kayleigh [Miguel] Sims, Meera Patel, and Neela Patel), and brother (John Powell).

Visitation and services will be handled by Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan on September 26th, 2026. Visitation will be from 11-1, with services to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society, one of Amy’s favorite organizations in life.
