Arlene Drake

Arlene Drake, 76, of Sullivan passed away on February 13, 2018 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Vigo County on January 26, 1942 to Willard Shew and Anna Muriel (Mullens) Shew. Arlene was a 1959 graduate of North Central High School; had become the office manager and receptionist for Dr. James Reynolds and had various jobs in her life such as Farmersburg Switchboard operator, a substitute teacher for the Southwest Sullivan School Corporation and the North East Sullivan School Corporation, and most recently at Holmes Memorial Chapel where she could warm your heart with a kind smile and a hug. Arlene was a member of the Sullivan 1st Christian Church, Missionary group #1, the Silver Dollar Spinners Square Dancing and past matron of the Farmersburg Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing, basketball, her grandchildren and eating out. Preceding her in death are her parents and a grandson Casey Drake.

Surviving members of her family include her husband of 58 years, Deb Drake whom she married on February 28,1960, son Mike (Beth) Drake of Sullivan, Daughter Angie Jones and her companion Greg Biggs of Sullivan, Brothers Don (Vickie) Shew of Galax NC, Kenny (Beverly) Shew of Davison NC, Dale (Sue) Shew of Graysville, sister Loretta (Marshall) McElmurry of Marion IL, grandchildren, Cody Drake, Mikayla Drake, Conor Jones, Caelan Jones, Kyleigh Jones, Ashlee Brackett, Alison Lane, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services for Arlene will be on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10:00a.m., with Rev. David Cox officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 4-8:00p.m., both will be at the Sullivan 1st Christian Church. 105 N Broad St. Sullivan. The Family suggest that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the first Christian Church, envelopes will be made available at the Church. Holmes Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements. Burial will be at Center Ridge Cemetery.
