She was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence "Bump" Walters of Greenwood and one sister Virginia "Diner" (Walters) Hardin of Shelburn, Indiana.

She is survived by 4 grandchildren, Martha Kristine Smith-Barrientos of Zionsville, Indiana, Matthew Carey Smith of Westfield, Indiana, and Michael Christian Smith of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Peter Jon Barton of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. She is also survived by her sister Sarah Jane (Walters) Duncan of McDonough, Georgia, special cousin Bob (and Alberta) Jones of Bedford, Indiana and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Throughout life she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible.
She was a 1941 graduate of Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Indiana. She met the love her life in December 1936, John Wm Clerk of New Lebanon and on May 31, 1941 they were married in the Sullivan Methodist Church. She was a past member of Central Methodist Church in Evansville, Indiana having lived the bulk of her life and she and John Wm raised her 3 children in Evansville. While in Evansville she followed her dream of being a nurse. At age 50 she returned to school to become an LPN (a fact her family was always very proud of her for doing). She worked a few years at her first love, Pediatrics, and later opened a day care center and has a lot of fond memories of the children she kept, and enjoyed hearing about them as they grew into adulthood. During the 1950s and early 1960s Betty worked in the office at Faultless Caster in Evansville.
She retired with her husband in 1984 and together they travelled throughout the country in their RV, eventually buying a house near Bonita Springs, Florida where they spent many happy winters with their friends and snowbirds from all over the country. She often said, "I've had a truly wonderful life and I have so much to be thankful for." She was especially thankful for the nearly 71 years she had with the love her life, her husband John Wm.
