Billy Eugene "Bill" Cagle, 88, of Shelburn IN, went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday July 25, 2018 at 10:34p.m. He was born December 6, 1929 to Dillon Walter Cagle and Bluebell Beatrice (Stoops) Cagle.
Bill was class of 1949 Gerstmeyer High School and enjoyed meeting each month with his school friends prior to his illness.
Bill was quite industrious as he sold newspapers for Terre Haute Tribune Star at Union Hospital and around that neighborhood. He shined shoes at Burn's Barbershop and also delivered for Larison's Drugstore in Terre Haute. He worked for Pennsylvania Railroad and New York Central Railroad as a fireman before transferring to Allis Chalmers. He was drafted in 1953 to the United States Army where he was stationed in Watertown NY. He came home on a three day pass to marry the love of his life Marilyn Jo (Fulford) Cagle. When he was honorably discharged from the Army he returned to Allis Chalmers until they closed and he transferred to Ethyl Visqueen then later transferred to J.I. Case. While there he began studying at Indiana State University where he received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Vocational Education. Bill taught at Bloomington North High School and later retired from the Indiana Department of Correction's Indiana State Farm in Putnamville IN after 21 years there.
Bill was a member of Shiloh Assembly of God Church. He loved playing his guitar in Shiloh Church and singing gospel music. He taught Sunday School class at Shiloh Church for many years and spent much time studying his Bible in preparation. He was honored to be sponsored for the El Shaddai Emmaus Walk #61 at Clay City.
Bill enjoyed being a Conductor on a volunteer basis at French Lick Railroad for several years. He is still a member of the French Lick Railway Museum. He loved motorcycle rides, convertible rides, bicycle rides, and taking naps under his favorite tree in the woods.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Linda Jean Cagle Winderlich, a granddaughter, Lacy Gene Cagle, a sister Betty Joan Cagle Tryon, and two brothers Ronnie Cagle and Gary Cagle.
Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn, three sons, Bruce (Nina) Cagle of Shelburn IN, Brian (Mary) Cagle of Fayetteville GA, and Brad (Tina) Cagle of Shelburn IN, and one daughter, Susan (Clark) Baker of Cloverdale IN.
Bill is also survived by 11grandchildren: Anthony (Autumn) Cagle of Anchorage AK, Lorinda (Daniel) Bartlett of Zionsville IN, Lauren (Jeff) Altizer of Fayetteville GA, Danielle (Matt) Morgan of Marietta GA, Brianne (Steven) Fader of Newnan GA, Traci (Dustin) Dodds of Bloomington IN, Ashley (Kyle) McCammon of Sullivan IN, Kassie (Steven) Morgan of Shelburn IN, Ross Baker, Sarah Baker and Hannah Baker of Cloverdale IN. There are also 25 great grandchildren and one on the way.
Bill is also survived by his sister Marge (Ed) Gillie of Terre Haute IN, and his sister in-law Phyllis Fulford of Terre Haute IN, and brother in-law Daryle Paul (Joyce) Fulford Jr. of Commerce Township MI and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 11:00a.m. on Saturday July 28, 2018 at the Holmes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dick Smith officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8:00p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00a.m. until service time at 11:00a.m. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Shiloh Assembly of God Church (mail contributions to 7971 E County Road 875 N Shelburn IN 47879-8042) in Bills memory or give to the charity of your choice. Holmes Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements. Burial will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Hymera IN with full military rites by the Sullivan County Representatives of Local American Legions and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
