Darrell Rex Shorter

New Lebanon

Darrell “Rex” Shorter, 77,  of New Lebanon, IN, entered the presence of the Jesus on Sunday December 25, 2022, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born February 3, 1945, in Sullivan County to Victor and Esther Shorter. He married the love of his life, Arlene Lynette (Shew) Shorter, on November 9, 1968.

Rex was a 1963 graduate of Sullivan High school. He was proud to be a Vietnam Veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He faithfully attended Wabash Valley Community Church. He was employed with Hoosier Energy, and retired in 2007. His family was his life and he cherished every moment he spent with them. He enjoyed attending horse races, taking care of retired thoroughbreds, and watching his nieces and nephews play ball. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers, Jerry and Mike.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of New Lebanon; sons, Kevin (Amie) of Houston, TX,  Aaron ( Tina Kithcart) Hot Springs, AR and Justin of Katy, TX; grandchildren, Madeline (Devyn), Will (Chau) Allen, Casey and Ryan; great-granddaughters born this year, Brooklyn and Winter. A brother Ron (Ann) along with sisters Beverly Coulson, Vickie (Ben) Springer and Debbie (Joe) Robbins; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday December 30, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Matt Hayes officiating. Visitation will be Friday December 30, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will follow at Mt Zion Cemetery, New Lebanon, IN, The family requests contributions be made to, Our Fathers Arms, P.O. Box 273 , Sullivan, IN 47882.
