David K. Barley

June 24, 1947 – July 24, 2026

David (Dave) Keith Barley passed surrounded by his wife and children on July 24, 2026 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born in Albany, California to Lester P. and Gloria M. Barley and grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois. Dave proudly served in the United States Army from August 1967 to October 1969. Stationed in Germany with Battery A 3D Battalion 7th Artillery, Dave earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and was an expert on the M14.

Dave was a long-time member of Stewart-Norris American Legion Post #197 in Shelburn, Indiana and retired from GE Aerospace in Terre Haute, Indiana and Rexnord Aerospace in Downers Grove, Illinois.

Dave was known for his wit and endless stories of his youth and antics. He enjoyed playing golf and cards, league bowling, fishing, and summer cookouts spent with family and friends. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan and loved to watch every single game with his friends and family. Dave was an encyclopedia of trivia and random, little-known facts of information and could quickly answer Jeopardy! questions and solve Wheel of Fortune puzzles before anyone else. He was a living atlas, from his time driving for Schneider, and could tell you the best route to drive within minutes of mentioning a destination.

Dave is survived by his wife of 40 years, Charlene Barley of Shelburn, Indiana; four children: Shannon Hall – Indianapolis, Indiana; Melisa (Paul) DeVoss – Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; Ben (April) Barley – Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; and Tiffany Barley – Terre Haute, Indiana; 2 step-children: Bobby Pike – Shelburn, Indiana and Cassandra (Charles) Webster – Romeoville, Illinois; sister: Beverly (John) Fleetwood – Sullivan, Indiana; brother-in-law: Bob (Bonnie) Pienkos – Sullivan, Indiana; beloved grandchildren: Rujeana (Mike) Jordan; Douglas, December, Blake and Ava Pike; Shelby Richardson; Janelle Webster; Charlee (Matt) Gifford; Chance (Kelsi), Caleb and Corbin Jones; Jacob (Sara) Neal and Xana Barley; Emma, Lilly, Grace and Cort Byrd; six great grandchildren: Baylee and Ganon Jordan; Jayce Pik; Zayne and Kylee Culyat; and Ivan Neal. As well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he cherished deeply.

Preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Gloria Barley; two sisters: Bonnie Pienkos and Betsy LaRoy; and two grandsons: Marcus Pike and Quinton Jones.

Dave had a hart full of love and was a testament of a husband, father, and man. He was active in his children and grandchildren’s academic and sports lives and loved to take them to the legion and could regularly be found with a house full on weekends. He gave his children roots to keep them grounded and wings to chase their dreams. Dave left memories, love, and laughter that will stand the test of time and will be forever loved and missed.

A memorial celebration will be held at Stewart-Norris American Legion Post #197 in Shelburn, Indiana on September 12, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. All are welcome to come and raise a toast and share a favorite memory of Dave with his family and friends.
