It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Debra Jean Ward, fondly known as Debbie, on April 8, 2026, at the age of 63. Debbie left this world surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous but brief battle with lung cancer in her home in Shelburn, Indiana. She was born on July 23, 1962, in Madison, Indiana, to the late James “Pops” Pyles and Muriel Mae Rothe Grove. Debbie's journey was one filled with love, laughter, and a bright spirit that touched everyone she met.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Brenda Pyles and Paula Davis, nephew James Davis, nephew Jason Kimmel, and a cherished family member, Ross Marts.
She will be greatly missed by her partner and later, husband of nearly 35 years, Edward Ward. She leaves behind her sister Sandy Rilenge and two brothers. Her memory lives on through her children: Ashley Ward, Nicholas (Ashley) Rilenge, Amanda Rilenge Milsho, and stepson Sean Ward. Debbie embraced several "adopted kids” over the years, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Her grandchildren, Esther Russel, Axle Ward, Vayda Rilenge, Willow Rilenge, Andrew Manuel, Landen Manuel, Waylon Milsho, Rylee Milsho, Wyatt Ward, and Kendzlee Ward, were her pride and joy, each cherished deeply. Debbie also helped raise her niece, Dakota Rilenge. Her affection extended to several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A graduate of Madison Consolidated High School, Debbie was known for her strong work ethic, having worked in several manufacturing facilities, including the Staples Distribution Center, before retiring from Advics Manufacturing in 2024. Her coworkers remember her as a dedicated worker and loyal friend.
Debbie loved coffee, super sweet tea, thrifting at yard sales, horses and Elvis. She had the heart of a servant and was always ready to lend a helping hand. She cooked amazing food and did not know a stranger; if you had a meal she cooked, you were family! Fishing, going to the river and playing slot machines at the casino were some of her favorite hobbies. Debbie also could not pass up a stray animal that caught her heart; including a raccoon and a skunk throughout the years!
Her family extends a great appreciation to all who have assisted them during this difficult time with a special thank you to both Katie Padgett and Kayla Payton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome directly toward her final expenses.
In honoring Debbie's wishes, the family will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm, with further details to be shared privately.
