Deloris (Hayes) Alexander

December 15, 1935 — December 24, 2022

Farmersburg

Sullivan,

Deloris (Hayes) Alexander, 87, of Farmersburg, IN, Entered Heaven December 24,

2022, at 11:25 p.m. at Envive Nursing Home in Sullivan, IN, with her family by

her side. Deloris had found her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 16 at

Oak Grove Pentecostal Church, Springville, IN. She had followed and worshipped

her Savior all her life. In her younger years she enjoyed playing the guitar and

singing with her sisters and brothers-in-law at many different churches in the area.

In 1969, Deloris and her husband and their son moved from Springville, IN, to

Farmersburg, IN.

On this Christmas Eve, the radio at her bedside was softly playing Christmas

music. A few hours before Deloris passed, Dolly Parton was singing a song that

caught my attention. Dolly sang “It’s Christmas time again, another year has come

and gone, and I can’t keep from wondering how my folks are at home. So, I’ll be

home with bells on, this Christmas, I’ll be home with bells on.” How appropriate

since Deloris was the last of nine children.

Deloris was born December 15, 1935, in Owensburg, IN, to James Curtis Hayes

and Sarah (Hudson) Hayes. She is preceded in death by her parents, all eight of her

siblings, brothers, Marvin Hayes, Cecil Hayes, Jack Hayes, sisters, Louise Collins,

Mary Allen, Cleata Jackson, Rosella Strauser and Deloris’s twin sister, Delight

Arthur.

Survivors include their son, Paul Wayne Alexander, Farmersburg, nieces, Lynn

Hayes, of Farmersburg, Kathy (Greg) Baker, of Springville, Connie (Jim)

Kingsley, of North Carolina, nephews, Marvin Dale (Gerrie) Hayes, of Alabama,

Mark (Linda) Jackson, of Indiana, Mike (Sharon) Allen, of North Carolina, David

(Tanya) Allen, of North Carolina, several great nieces and nephews.

A special Thank You to her niece Lynn Hayes who lived close by Deloris and was

always a big help to her. Thank you to the caring staff at Envive nursing home of

Sullivan and Heartland Hospice staff, along with Dr. Barbara Reed.
