Diane K Marheine

April 8, 1951 — June 13, 2015

Diane K. Marheine, 64, of Sullivan, Indiana passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family after a courageous 5 year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Evansville, IN on April 8, 1951. She was married to Bruce Marheine on June 29, 1974. She retired in 2014 after 34 years of teaching elementary school; most of which was spent in the kindergarten classroom of Shelburn Elementary. Diane was dedicated to numerous community activities including Sullivan County 4-H Horse and Pony and open class food preservation programs, Community Kitchen, Our Father's Arms and Tri-Kappa. She was an active member at Sullivan First Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies included food preservation (especially known for her homemade jams and jellies), church choir, fishing (particularly with her grandsons) and anything involving nature such as hiking, berry picking, and morel hunting. Diane was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Schroeder (Evansville). She is survived by her husband Bruce; daughter Tamara (Andy) Chastain (Summitville, IN); son Richard Marheine (Louisville, KY); grandsons Eli, Carson, and Timothy Chastain; mother Jean Schroeder (Evansville); brother Dan (Jennifer) Schroeder (Sparta, NJ); sister Sharon (Bruce) Lawson (Evansville); beloved inlaws, nieces and nephews throughout the U.S.; and numerous friends, former students, and 4-Hers all of whom she considered family. Visitation will be at Sullivan First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 16th from 5-9pm. Services will take place at that church on Wednesday, June 17th at 11:00am with visitation prior from 9-10:30am. Burial and a brief service will occur at Zoar United Church of Christ in Evansville, IN on Wednesday at 2"30pm Evansville time. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to Sullivan Community Kitchen or to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation in Diana's honor to provide for a scholarship that would assist students intending to study elementary education. Holmes Memorial Chapel of Sullivan was entrusted with arrangements.
