Donita Kaye Mize, 79, of Sullivan, passed away at her home on Thursday November 25, 2021, with her family by her side. She was born in Sullivan, on January 21, 1942, to Donis L. Reel and Catherine E. (Davis) Reel. She was a 1959 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and a graduate of Indiana State University receiving her Masters Degree in Education. She was a Teacher for the Southwest Sullivan School Corporation for most of her career. She was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church, Indiana State Teachers Association, National Education Association, The Red Hat Society, and the Sullivan Eastern Stars. Donita loved life, her family, friends and the organizations that she belonged to. She made an impact on the children that she taught throughout her years in education and made her community a better place by her existence and participation in local events. She was preceded in death by her parents, a child Donis Ray Mize, a sister Anita Faye Reel and a step great granddaughter Piper Clark.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years Jack Mize, a son Ronald L. (Joanna) Lowery Jr., a step daughter Jenny (Raymond) Clark, grandchildren, Alisha Lowery, Ronald L. Lowery III, step grandchildren, Kalhab Clark, Brayden Clark, Joseph Clark, Jeremy Clark and a great granddaughter, Sadie Ann Lowery, step great granddaughter Bella Clark, Zaylee Clark and several other extended family.
Eastern Star services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday December 3, 2021 at Holmes Memorial Chapel funeral service to follow with Pastor Paul Myers officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be at Center Ridge Cemetery.
