Sullivan Edward (Eddie) Lee Hays went home to his Heavenly Family with his family at his side. He was born to Lawrence "Rusty" Hays and Margie Ann Hoffman on September 26, 1952, in Sullivan, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his beloved mother, his devoted wife of 42 years, Connie Zaayer Hays, his adoring children, daughter, Jennifer (Brandon) Gibbs, and son, Kevin Hays. His precious grandchildren, Zackary Edward Gibbs, Alexa Margaux Gibbs, and Bristol Paul Hays all of Sullivan. Brother, Larry (Janet) Hays of Sullivan and sister Joy (Robert) Roberts of Kokomo and other relatives and friends. He was a 1971 graduate of Sullivan High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sullivan and he served on several committees as well as choir. He was a member of the Lions Club and served as President, Vice President, treasurer, and secretary. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and W.P. Woods Fellows award. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Sullivan Historical Society as well as a recipient of the Friend of the Museum award. Ed worked at Dairy Queen in Sullivan during his teenage years. He was a baker and cake decorator for Great Scot and Brick Oven Bakery. He owned and operated Hays' Deli and Catering (Hankins) for several years. He then worked at Bealsers in Terre Haute and Sullivan in the bakery. He was also co-owner of Awards and More Trophy Shop. His greatest hobby in life was collecting all his treasures. He loved antiques and collectibles. He was known for his infectious laugh, gentle soul, and giving spirit. He will greatly be missed by his loving family and loyal friends. Visitation will be at the Sullivan First United Methodist Church on Monday, November 16, 2015, from 4 - 8 p.m. Services will also be at the church on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ben Cassiday presiding. Burial will be at Center Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers are Kevin Hays, Brandon Gibbs, Zackary Gibbs, Bristol Hays, Paul Boone, George Bennett, Randy Huff, and Don Hunt. The family requests that if you wish, you may donate of your time to a community service project of your choice in his memory. Holmes Memorial Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
