Elmer Allen

Elmer Allen was called home by his Lord on Friday, August 9, 2013 at his home with his beloved wife. He was 91 years-old, born on January 5, 1922 in Washington, Indiana to Van Allen and Ida Briedman Allen, both deceased. Elmer attended school in Daviess and Martin counties; he was a very intelligent, self-taught man. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was deployed to North Africa. After returning to the United States, he married his childhood sweetheart, Barbara Jones Allen. They just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Elmer owned and operated his own trucking business and was a wholesale lumber and plastic drainage pipe dealer in Odon, IN for 40 years. He was a member of the Rose Chapel United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Elmer's two surviving children are , Robert W. Allen, Sullivan; a daughter, Penny Allen Siefert (BJ), Kokomo; five grandchildren, Dawna Reynolds, Logansport; Stacee Gehring (Jeff) Bloomington; Ryan Fischer (Bobbi), currently serving in Afghanistan; Stacia Siefert, Peoria, IL; and Jason Siefert, Fishers; seven great-grandchildren, Diona, Keegan, Anna, Kaleb, Jackson, Evie, and Carys; on great-granddaughter, Daylin. Elmer was one of ten children who preceded him in death. Sisters: Melissa, Josie, Elsie, Dorothy, and brothers: Bill, George, Cass and Earl. One sister, Evelyn Ruth died in childhood. The funeral will be at 10:30am on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan, Indiana. Visitation will be Monday, August 12, from 4-8pm. Revs. Jan and Ford Bond and Pastor B.J. Siefert will be officiating. Rev. Bill Phegley will honor and praise the Lord in Elmer's favorite hymns. A Military graveside service will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bramble, Indiana, provided by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion of Odon.
