It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Fountain Woodrow Wilson. Fountain Woodrow “Woody” Wilson, 82, of Sullivan, Indiana passed away at his residence on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
He was born on July 18, 1942 in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Woodrow Wilson and Francis Marie Johnson Wilson. Fountain was proud to serve his country in the USMC for a 4 year enlistment. He served an additional 3 years in the Marine Reserves. His military career took him overseas where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, was involved in America’s Secret war in Laos and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Fountain worked in various coal mines around Indiana, Illinois and Virginia as well as Canada. He was also a certified electrician and a truck driver for part of his work history. He was a member of the American Legion Post #139.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Paul Duane Wilson and Bradley Eugene Wilson; three sisters, Elenor Jane Thurman, Wanda Pearl Handley and Anita Kay Hussong along with his son, James D. Wilson.
Survivors include three sons, Lonnie Wilson of South Carolina, Zachary Wilson of Freedom, Indiana and Kyle Wilson of Linton Indiana. One brother, Carlton (Bertie) Wilson of Robinson, Illinois. Two sisters, Myrna Wilson of Indianapolis,Indiana, Maria Berry of Terre Haute, Indiana along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Fountain was a great joy to be around. He was very kind and compassionate, he loved to joke around. He loved nothing more than to sit around the fire pit and drink a cold beer. Fountain loved to cook on the grill all summer long. He so enjoyed camping, fishing and riding his new electric 3 wheeled bike. He tremendously enjoyed being outdoors.
Fountain will be greatly missed by many who truly knew him. He said the last 7 years of his life were the best. He learned what it was like to be truly loved and appreciated. I am blessed to have known him most of my life and even more blessed to have found out the inner person that he was. What a wonderful caring and kind man he was. May he rest in peace.
There will be a private graveside service with a celebration of his life at a date to be announced.
Holmes Memorial Chapel and staff were honored to assist the family with arrangements.
