Garry Shake , 84, of Sullivan, passed peacefully on to his Heavenly Father, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at The Waters of Sullivan surrounded by his loving family.  Garry entered this life on September 19, 1939 born at home in Paxton, IN to the late Kenneth and Ruth Plummer Shake. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School Class of 1957, soon after graduation he enlisted and  proudly went on to serve his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea, after the war.

Garry was united in marriage to his true love and lifetime partner, Sandra Taylor, on May 21,1960. Together they raised 4 beautiful children while cherishing life and making lasting memories together.

Garry was a member of the Sullivan VFW #2459 and American Legion Post #139, where he proudly served on the Sullivan County Honor Guard. Since returning to Sullivan County in1970, he was a lifelong  member of  St Mary's Catholic Church. In his younger days he enjoyed coaching Little League and Youth Football. He was an avid Fighting Irish and Colts fan and enjoyed attending games with his sons and grandsons.

He was a retired ironworker with Local #22, who built many bridges and power houses all over the United States. He was proud to say he was part of building Hulman Civic Center. He was an instructor for Ivy Tech, Terre Haute Campus, passionately teaching future welders to read fabrication blueprints, welding symbols, converting and basic measurements for the Welders Course.  He was a jack of all trades, doing construction, auto mechanic, carpentry, and gardening to name a few of his many talents. He was a fantastic cook, his BBQ ribs were award-winning with his family and friends, he also enjoyed trout fishing in his spare time. Garry deeply valued his family and his greatest treasures were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, that he unconditionally loved and cherished. The memories he leaves are forever etched in the hearts of each one.

Those preceding him are his wife, Sandra Taylor Shake along with a sister, Janet Stanley.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Rick Shake (Harriet), Lisa Sluder (Neal), Ron Shake (Paige) and #1 Tracey Tate (Rick); grandchildren, Kimberly Shake, Kyle Shake, Tyler Bohannon, Taylor Lisman (J.D.), Jon Sluder (Jenna), Jackson Shake, Carter Tate and Parker Tate and many beloved great-grandchildren along with a sister, Joyce Cox (Ed).

Visitation will be at Holmes Memorial Chapel on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 10 am. until 11:30 am. with services following at St Mary's Catholic Church at 12 pm. with Father Suresh Bakka officiating. Burial will follow at Center Ridge Cemetery. Military services will be given by the Sullivan County Honor Guard.
