Gertrude E. Land, 87, of Dugger, slipped into the eternal splendor of Heaven, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by those she deeply loved. Gertrude began her journey in life on December 30, 1937 in Sullivan County, to the late John and Eula McCammon Walters. She was a graduate of Dugger High School. After graduation, she married her lifetime partner, Joe Land, on May 21,1955. Together they lovingly raised their 4 children and cherished watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She was a faithful member of Faith Community Church.
Gertrude was a loving, devoted Wife, Mother, Gam, Sister and friend to all.
She loved nothing more than being surrounded by family. Her dinner table was well known for her scrumptious noodles, along with cinnamon toast that no one could make like Gam. She could be often found mowing and working in her flowers. She loved being a homemaker and adored her family above all. She found enjoyment attending her grandchildren’s softball games, reminding her of the days when she played softball.
Those awaiting her Heavenly arrival were her parents; her loving husband, Joe Land; siblings, Herman, Virgil, Bob and Bill Walters, Thelma Turpen and Freda Mobley.
Those here to cherish her memory are her children, Terry Joe Land (Chris), Marsha Fisher, Roger Land (Garla) and Peggy Camden; siblings, Rick Walters, Mary Delph and Karen Ballard; grandchildren, Jeremey Land, Holly Near (Darren), Charity Wilkes, Jessie Martin (Travis), Tony Mahurin, Tiffiany Smith (Mick), Trent Land, Tiera Powell (Jayton), Corey Camden, Gage Camden (Chelsie), Blake Camden; 18 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Services to celebrate a life well lived, will be on Friday, August 1,2025, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Shawn Farris officiating. Burial will follow at Center Ridge Cemetery.
