Hugh Allen "Bob" Thompson

August 30, 1939 — September 20, 2024

Sullivan

Hugh Allen "Bob" Thompson, 85, of Sullivan, peacefully entered the arms of Jesus on Friday, September 20, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on August 30, 1939, in Riverton, Indiana, he was the eldest son of Hugh "Babe" Thompson and Emma "Irene" Riggs Thompson.

Bob grew up in Merom, Indiana, where he attended school, gaining the nickname RAT. After schooling, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. On July 15, 1961, he married Nancy Kay Wilson. Together, they built a life of faith, love, and devotion, raising four children with strong values and a deep reverence for God. Their family grew, bringing joy to Bob throughout his life.

A man of many talents and unyielding work ethic, Bob had a varied career as a truck driver, heavy equipment operator, and turkey farmer.

Bob looked forward to his heavenly home. He was known for his storytelling, his love of coffee with friends, and his enjoyment of watching sports on television.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bruce.

Left to honor and cherish his memory are his beloved wife of more than sixty years, Nancy; his children: Verna Thompson Metcalf (Mike), Brent Thompson (Sindi), Marla Thompson Clark (Bill), and Cindy Thompson Moore (Randy); his grandchildren: Katie Ketterer (Brian), Hollie Metcalf, Kayla Metcalf, Thad Thompson (Jamie), Samantha Unger (Caleb), Jessica Sturgis (Ryan), William Clark (Anna), Annie Bedwell (David), Samantha Glover (Will), Sabrina Gallo, Adam Moore (Lexie), Amanda Doud (Scott), Jenna Crouse, and Nathan Moore; along with 25 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Darlene McKinney, Carolyn Daughtery, Myra Thompson, and David Thompson.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later date.

The family is deeply grateful to Holmes Memorial Chapel and its staff for their care and support during this time.
