Jean Powers Stanley, 83, Sullivan, IN passed away surrounded by her daughters in Crawfordsville, IN on February 11, 2016.

Jean was proceeded in death by her husband of 54 years, Arthur F. (Stanionis) Stanley.

She is survived by her three daughters Sabrina Stanley (Steven Howarth) Redwood City, CA, Lissa Stanley Fairfield, Crawfordsville, IN, and Ann Stanley, Crawfordsville, IN and 6 grandchildren: Bret and Derek Stanley-Howarth, Victoria, William, and Thomas Fairfield, and Garrett Stanley.

Born in Vail, IA to Mary (Robinson) and Thomas (Len) Powers, Jean was one of eleven children. She is survived by her siblings Jack Powers, Denison, IA, Sally Michelson, San Marino, CA, Joan DeFelippo, Reedsport, OR, Mary Carol Miller, Yuba City, CA, Nancy Powers Gonzales, Thousand Oaks, CA, Jane Neppl, Laguna Niquel, CA and Joseph Powers, Dumfries, VA and 34 nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her sister Rosalie Schoessler, Westside, IA, brother George Powers, Maryville, MO, and sister Catherine Petersen, Schleswig, IA.

Jean worked for years in the radio business alongside her husband, then later worked for several years as a secretary at a financial office. She was a very active and devout member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Jean loved to travel and showed her characteristic wide ranging interests as she checked out new sights, foods and activities. Her grandchildren and daughters have stories about traveling with her and how much better the trip was because of her curiosity and sense of adventure. She was known for being honest and direct, telling it like it is. Her daughters are in awe of her strong work ethic and the determined example she set.

Family and friends may pay their respects at Holmes Memorial Funeral Home from 9:30am to 10:30am on Monday, February 15, 2016. Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Center Ridge Cemetery. All are invited to luncheon served at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local library for large print books is suggested.
