Joann Martin

November 14, 1944 – October 19, 2026

On the evening of October 19, Joann left this earth to be reunited with her one true love, Auggie while listening to Psalms being read to her

Joann was born on November 14, 1944, the adored daughter of Lloyd Lewis, and the oldest of 9 children. From the time she first locked eyes with him, she was the apple of his eye and a true Daddy’s girl.

Joann graduated from Sullivan High School in 1963, having married Auggie just months earlier on January 3, 1963, before he deployed in the Navy. Joann spent much of this time with her grandparents and her Grandma Jennie taught her to be an amazing cook.

Joann retired from Duke Energy after working for many years managing all things in the office; she was the first woman to retire from Edwardsport Generating Station.

After both she and Auggie retired, they embarked on camping adventures across the United States. Their adventures took them coast to coast and north to south making many friends along the way; together, Auggie and Joann experienced many of the national parks and enjoyed time being campground hosts in several beautiful areas. Joann was always up to building a campfire and learning new games to bring home and play with her family.

Family always came first for Joann and while she was quiet, her support never wavered through all of the activities they were fortunate to be part of. When Joann’s grandkids came along, and then the great grandkids, there was always a cookie jar full of Oreos and Chips Ahoys with cold milk in the refrigerator.

Joann has been reunited in heaven with her dear husband, Auggie, and her dad, Lloyd Lewis. Also waiting for her were her twin sisters, Brenda and Linda, her brothers, Walter, Steve, and Tony and daughter-in-law Sue Martin.

Left to mourn Joann’s passing are those who will dearly miss their Mom, Angie and Frank Kuckewich, Scott and Debi Martin, and Tracey and Bill Drappo, those who called her Nana, Nicole (Jake) Black, Jonathan (Jenna) Eastham, Brandon Eastham, Kody (Kylee) Martin, Ashleigh Martin, BiIly (Mary) Drappo, Annie (Aaron) Drappo, Faye (John) Osborn, and her Great Grands August, Adelaide, Sadie, Hartley, Harrison, and Martin. Joann is also survived by her brothers, Bill and Jan Lewis and Jeff Lewis as well as sisters-in-law Nancy Lewis and Connie Lewis. Also surviving is her Goddaughter, Samantha Knoblett and her family, many nieces and nephews (who proudly boasted at very young ages of being much taller than her), as well as oh so many cousins. Her cat, her favorite child, Tabby will reside with Tracey.

Visitation with the family will be held at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan on Friday, October 23 from 11am to 1pm with services to begin at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ouabache Valley Felines and Friends for continued support of Tabby’s friends
