John Paul Cox

February 11, 1943 — November 13, 2024

Sullivan

John Paul Cox, a loving husband, father and grandpa, passed quietly into the arms of Jesus at his home, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 11,1943 the son of Wendell and Mildred Bledsoe Cox. He was a 1961 graduate of Sullivan High School. John proudly furthered his education, earning his Engineering degree from Purdue University.  He and Nancy Wampler were united in marriage on August 2, 1964. They celebrated 60 years of loving life together.

He retired after 31 years of dedicated service with Case Corporation. After retirement he was always busy. He was a longtime member and Deacon of Sullivan First Baptist Church. He loved Jesus and shared his time visiting with shut-in congregation members. He was also a member of Sullivan BPOE 911, where he enjoyed the company of his fellow “Rinky Dinks” golfing club.

He was a planner, making his list and making sure everyone had the things they were assigned on their list. He loved nothing more than planning large family gatherings, where he was a hit with the older and much younger generation. He was an excellent woodworker, building cabinets and bookcases to name a few.

He enjoyed farming with his brother Joe along with gardening and his fabulous strawberry patch. The precious memories he leaves with his loved ones are endless. One of his favorite past times was sitting  around the fire, listening to the conversations around him. He always had a stick and played in the fire. He was an avid Trump fan and was adamant that he vote not by absentee ballot but in person this election. He was ready to go vote at midnight and anxiously awaited the polls to open. He will forever be remembered as the kind, loving and wonderful family man he was. He adored the time spent with his grandchildren and children. With his passing the family will do as the question he always asked them when life was tough. “How do you eat an elephant? " One bite at a time" he would say, one bite at a time.

Those gone before him are his parents, a brother Joe Cox; son in-law, Jim Alexander along with a granddaughter, Alyssa Ysidora.

Those left with lifetime memories to cherish are, his loving wife, Nancy Wampler Cox; children, Terri Alexander, Tracey Cox and Tricia Johnson (Aaron); sister in-law Margie Cox; 8 grandchildren along with 13 great-grandchildren and one soon to arrive. Also his faithful companion and fur baby, Ben, who’ll miss him deeply.

Services will be on Monday November 18, 2024 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with visitation from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mike Rotman officiating. Burial will follow at Center Ridge Cemetery.
