John Marvin Ellington, slipped peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, January 27, 2024. He was born January 1,1949 in Brazil IN to John and Nila Ellington. He was a graduate of Plainfield High School, later continuing his education at Vincennes University. On April 30, 1993, he married his best friend and loving wife Cathy Griffith Ellington.
John owned and operated various businesses through the years, including Ellington Pest Control, landscaping and also Ellington Heating and Air. He also provided a delivery service for Chickadaunce Kawasaki. John held the office of Sullivan City Councilman, and prided himself on helping to better the city of Sullivan and those who call it home. He had a love for dirt bikes, and was an adrenaline junky for speed on one. He enjoyed boats and spent hours in his shop building his own wooden speed boat, and tinkering with any kind of engine. He also obtained his pilot's license.
John was a loving and kind man to all he met, he believed in treating people with respect and kindness. He was a man of vast knowledge that knew a bit about everything and could engage in conversation with anyone about anything. He never met a stranger, and was a warm gentle soul that easily made friends, of which he had many. When the opportunity presented itself, he was not afraid to make a joke. He enjoyed reading, with a distinct curiosity of history. Most importantly John treasured the time spent with family and friends, he was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend.
His parents precede him. Those that remain to cherish his memory are his best friend and wife, Cathy Ellington along with his children, Amy Burns (Butch), Susan Stoltz (Adam), Laura McGhee and Bobby Farmer (Katie); grandchildren, Shaye (Alexzadrian), Hailey, Regan, Evan, Camryn, Lilly, Jada, Luke, Landyn and Gavyn along with his sister, Patricia Quattrocchi.
Services will be at the graveside at Center Ridge Cemetery on Friday February 2, 2024 at 2:30 pm. with Pastor David Cox officiating. Holmes Memorial Chapel was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
