June Ladson Hodges

June Ladson Hodges (87) of Wilfred, In. Heard the voice of Jesus calling “WELL DONE, MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT” on July 21, 2026, surrounded by her family and dog, Ellie. She was born to Ray and Reba (Bruce) Furry on May 18th in Detroit Michigan. She was a member of the Hymera Independent Community Church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. June and John Ed were graduates of Hymera High School, in the class of 1957, 6 out of their 28 classmates are left now.

She worked at Hymera First Farmers State Bank, Shelburn Peoples State Bank, and later was caucused in as Sullivan County Treasurer, to replace Alice Ann Goodman, and then was elected into this position for two terms, where she retired in 2010, due to her husband's illness. She was a true conservative Republican and was not afraid to make that known !! She loved her country with her whole heart. June will forever be remembered by two words “ SHE LOVED”. She loved her family and her friends so much. Her heart was genuine, her motives pure, and her smile was true. She lived her whole life to get where she was right now (Heaven). June watched Gaither videos and Country Family Reunion 24/7. She loved to read and she loved God’s word. She loved with her whole heart and her prayers to her final breath was that her family and friends would truly surrender their lives to Jesus and she would be with them all in Heaven one day. She loved trail riding and camping, and she loved watching and cheering on her kids and grandkids contesting and all their sporting events. June loved people.

She was united in marriage to John Edward Ladson on May 23, 1957 (53 years)and now reunited with him in Heaven, where they are worshipping Jesus together once again.

Her children, Edward Lee Ladson (Vincennes), Beth Ladson (Randy) Swalls (Wilfred) and Michael David Ladson, who predeceased her in 2006, were truly “Blessed” with such a wonderful Mother (Proverbs 31:26). Daughter- in-law, Cathy Larson Stamper, (Hymera), brother, Ronnie (Louise) Furry, (Owensburg), sister, Shirley Penrod, (Hymera), sister-in-law, Barbara Enstrom, (Hymera), Bunny Kessner, (Terre Haute), and many nieces and nephews, bonus children, Connie (Daryl) Cunningham and family, (North Carolina), and Gil (Cindy) Hodges and Luke, (Fairbanks).

She was a Mom Mom (Grandma) to Brenda (Jamie) Ladson, John (Mary) Ladson, Jeremy (Sara) Swalls, Amy (Doc) Ison, Zack Ladson, Bethany (Ben) Wheaton, Clint (Trena) Shorter, Crystal Ladson, Darrin (Ashley) Swalls, Justine Ladson.

Great Grandma to Kirsten Swalls, Dalen Ladson, Lakayla Ladson, Gage Wheaton, Jeremiha Swalls, Abby Wheaton, Skyler Trowbridge, Bella Balen, Kimber Ladson, Emmy Woodruff, Michael Sankey, Brody Ladson, Paisley Swalls, Zoey Swalls, Berkley Swalls, Boone Ladson, Annalyn Shorter, Lincoln McCammon, and Lane McCammon.

Great Great Grandma June to Joseph, Jackson, Orion, and Emery.

June later married Allen Hodges from Prairie Creek, IN and they were together for 10 years, until his death in 2022. Living in Prairie Creek, June made many new friends and enjoyed each of them.

There were so many special friends, neighbors, horse family, church family in her life. She loved you all beyond words. Beverly Burris was her childhood best friend and always continued to be; Mary Lou Quick is a forever friend who was always there for her until the end and Juliana Drake was a precious great niece, who always stayed in contact with her and she loved so much. Along with so many more. You see to be a friend to Mom, meant she thought of you as family. she was so excited to get new neighbors and she had them for 2 days!! Jenna Slackard and Caroline Rexrode, Thank you for stopping often and Irma Kearns for calling her to check on her often-she loved that.

Our family wants to “Thank” all those who kept reaching out to her through good times and hard times of visits, phone calls and those who came to visit her when she was sick, because you brightened up her last few weeks when you walked in, or called her with encouraging words. A special Thank you to Roxanne for being by my side with all the clean up and challenges in the end, and a very special Thank you, to Viaquest Hospice for all of their encouragement and love they showed my Mom through her transition. Carrie, Lacie, Madi, Victoria, Chaplin, Jeff and all others, I can’t Thank you enough for loving her and being there for each of us. Most of all I want to Thank Jesus for giving our family, the very best Mom and Grandma who will forever be cherished in our hearts and missed so deeply. 

A celebration of a life well lived will be on Monday, July 27, 2026 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with family and friends gathering from 11:00am. until  time of service at 2:00 pm. Minister's Norman Santus, Jordan Stockrahm and Chaplin, Jeff Fulk  will officiate.  Burial will follow at K of P Cemetery
