Lana Sue Martindale

Lana Sue Golish Martindale, 68, of Sullivan, passed away on Saturday September 20, 2014 at her residence, with her family by her side. She was born on January 11, 1946 in Sullivan County to John and Tressie (Bunch) Golish. Lana Graduated from Sullivan High School in 1964 and from Indiana State University in 1968, majoring in English and minoring in Home Economics. She substituted for over 13 years and was on the Home Ec Advisory Board. She published several poetry and poems, often being published in the Sullivan Times, as well as a participant of the Times Writer Group. She was popular with her little paper "On the Other Hand" which she distributed throughout the community. She was also an Author of several self-published books. At one time she was very active in Sullivan County Extension and served as past president. She was also active in the Red Hat Society, fond of animals, caring for strays and lost pets. Preceding her in death are her parents and a sister Lois Byrd. Survivors include her husband of 46 years Steven Douglas Martindale whom she married on February 16, 1968, a daughter Shannon Martindale Riggle and her husband Brett of Washington, a brother John (Ruth) Golish of Sullivan, a sister Betty (Dale) Phillips of Sullivan, two grandchildren Benjamin Riggle and Clarie Riggle, and several nieces and nephews. Services for Lana will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday September the 24, 2014 at Holmes Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Cox officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8:00 p.m. Burial will take place in Center Ridge Cemetery. The family suggest that if friends so desire memorial contributions may be made to the Gentiva Hospice Foundation, Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, or the Scleroderma Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
