Lanny Allen Carman

Lanny Allen Carman, born April 7, 1938 to Richard and Marian Carman in Lafayette, IN, passed peacefully from this earth in the early hours of January 17, 2021 at his home in Houston, TX at 82 years of age.

Growing up throughout the Midwest and graduating from Springfield High School in Illinois, Lanny started his adult life as a machinist at Caterpillar. After moving to the New Orleans Area, he and his family were members of Kenner First Church of the Nazarene where they made many lifelong friends. He retired from Lockheed Martin in New Orleans, LA where he was part of NASA’s Space Shuttle Program as a machinist.

Throughout the years Lanny enjoyed collecting many things and became an avid collector of stamps, Mardi Gras doubloons, currency, model trains, and everything Coca Cola. None of this, however, holds a candle to his love of collecting postcards from around the world. As a member of the Tomball Postcard Club and historian of the Houston Area Postcard Club, he participated in several national and international postcard exchanges making many good friends along the way. Lanny is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Virginia Carman (Bell); daughter Marrian McCord of Midlothian, VA; sons Terry Carman and wife Lori of Slidell, LA, Glenn Carman and wife Tracy of Luling, LA, Joel Carman and wife Kristin of Houston, TX; daughter-in-law Sharon Carman of Meadville, MS; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and is preceded in death by his parents and loving son Dale Carman.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at The Crossing Church of the Nazarene, 14240 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77083. Visitation will start at 1:30 PM, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Indian Prairie Cemetery in Sullivan County Indiana for family.
