Colonial Beach Virginia

Leah Rosemary (Rosey) Tolson 96, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Colonial Beach Virginia, on September 1, 2022. She was born to Bernard Delph and Pearl King Delph, on July 22, 1926, in Terre Haute, Indiana.  She was a graduate of Wiley High School where she excelled at ping pong and tennis.  She also golfed and enjoyed reminiscing about her hole-in-one on the 2nd hole of the old Stadium course at Indiana State University, which she attended on scholarship.  She was an avid bowler, participating in leagues including duckpins, well into her mid-eighties.

Leah decided to become a secretary and began her career with the government as a clerk/secretary in the Chemical Warfare Department in Indianapolis, before transferring to Washington, DC in a similar capacity.  Two years later, she moved to the Washington office of Indiana Senator William E. Jenner.  After marrying, Leah returned to Indiana and raised her family.  In 1984, Leah went back to Washington, DC as the Office Manager of Governor Robert D. Orr's Washington office.  In December of 1986, she was presented the Sagamore of the Wabash, for dedicated and exceptional public srevice by Governor Orr.  Leah retired as Executive Assistant/Personal Secretary to Indiana Congressman Dan Burton in 1998 and returned to Terre Haute.  Leah was a huge sports fan, rarely missing a televised basketball game or tennis match.   Other than her hole-in-one, her favorite sports memory was sitting courtside at the Boston Garden watching Larry Bird and the Celtics play Julius Erving and the Philadelphia 76'ers.  Leah was active in the Prairieton United Methodist Church, the Federation of Republican Women of Vigo County and Habitat for Humanity.

Survivors include her children, Pamela Tolson, Colonial Beach, VA; Brad Tolson, Atlanta GA; Scott Tolson and Rosie Metheny, Sullivan County, IN; Kimbra and Bill Morgan, Arlington VA; Bill and Deena Scott, Bloomingdale, IN.  Grandchildren, Ashley and Jason White, Joel and Whitney Scott, Jade Scott, Dustin Scott, Benjamin Tolson and Annabelle Tolson. Great-Grandchildren, Logan and Elijah White and Karter and Ethan Scott.

As per her wishes, there will be a graveside service and burial held at Roselawn Cemetary at 11:00 a.m. on April 22, 2023.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Prairieton United Methodist Church, Prairieton, IN and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
