Lisa Jane (Jewell) Holmes

Lisa Jane Holmes (Jewell), aged 61, passed away Saturday, May 4th at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN after a brief illness. She was born June 7th, 1962 at St. Anthony Hospital in Terre Haute and was preceded in her journey by her parents, Ronald and Susan Jewell.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Holmes of Sullivan, IN; daughter, Chelsea Holmes of Indianapolis; stepson Wade (Erica) Holmes of Nashville, Tennessee; a sister, Pam (Todd) Yates of Milan, IN; a brother, Brian (Jeanie) Jewell of Farmersburg, IN; nieces Ashley Swenson, Danielle Williams and nephews Dillon and Austin Jewell.

Lisa attended Fairbanks Elementary, North Central High School (1980), and Franklin College where she earned a B.A. in English (1984). She also attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas majoring in Elementary Education. She was an avid member of 4-H where she and Pam showed cattle, horses and dogs. During her high school years she participated in volleyball, basketball, softball, drama club, marching and concert band. She played the trumpet in band and also had the starring role in the school play her freshman year.

She was employed by Columbia Records in Terre Haute; Gathright North American Moving and Storage in Little Rock, Arkansas; Teach-A-Tot pre-school, in which Chelsea also attended, in The Woodlands, Texas; Future Electronics in Irvine, California and home healthcare services around Sullivan County.

She coached youth softball in Irvine, California where she was Chelsea's head coach on various travel ball teams up until Chelsea's high school years. She was a huge fan of the Indianapolis Colts, but a die hard fan of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. She attended many games and enjoyed watching her team play.

She was so proud of Wade graduating from the University of Southern Indiana, and Chelsea graduating from both the University of California, Irvine and Indiana University.

A celebration of life will be held at Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan, Indiana on June 7, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Lisa had a deep passion for animal welfare, rescuing many throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Humane Society of Sullivan County is appreciated.
