Lj Sergent

August 15, 1947 — December 26, 2023

LJ “Sarge” Sergent, 76, a long-time resident of Sullivan, IN was called into God’s Kingdom on December 26th, 2023. He was born in Letcher County, Kentucky to Leonard and Hazel Sergent on August 15th, 1947.

He grew up in Hindman, Kentucky and after attending Hindman Boarding School he served in the Vietnam War. After coming home he was a man of many trades. He worked at a Family owned Tire Shop, worked on cars, ran his own farm, and had a deep passion for mowing; including several years of maintaining and mowing Hamilton Township Cemeteries, worked on and repaired computers, coached his kids, and retired as a Sargent from Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in 2010 after working there for many years.

He left behind his wife and best friend of 23 years, Connie McCammon-Sergent of Sullivan, IN, his children Regina (Freddie) Ducking of Indiana, April Sergent-Perez (Marcus Anderson) of IN, Leah (Gary) Green of Indiana, Trent Hollon of Indiana, Stacey Graves of California, Tracey Tyler of Indiana, Robert Sergent of Kentucky, Les (Amber) Bolenbaugh of Missouri, Jeff Sergent of Kentucky, Karin Bolenbaugh of Indiana, Darin (Lisa) Taylor of Illinois, his sister Kim (Chuck) Cottongame of Hazard, KY, a great host of grandkids and great-grandchildren. Along with many other family members, friends, and loved ones.

He proceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Lowell Creech all of Kentucky.

Sarge loved his family, would not take a dollar for anything, was the most forgiving honest man, and had a love for his tractor he had through most of his life. Most of all, many would remember how his laugh could change the energy of an entire room. His loved ones were left at peace knowing he was prepared to go, saved, and will be in a better place with our Lord Jesus.

Visitation will be at Holmes Memorial Chapel on Tuesday January 2nd from 4pm-8pm. His honorable service will be on Wednesday January 3rd at 1pm with Pastor David Cox officiating.  Military Honors will be given by the Sullivan County Honor Guard and the US Military. His final resting place will be at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, IN.
