Lucille Hardwick

Lucille Mary Hardwick of Greencastle, Indiana went to be with the lord on Thursday afternoon. Lucille was born on July 20th , 1934 to Palmino and Mary Cologrossi of Chicago IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; also preceding her was her husband Robert Allen Hardwick Sr. and her sister Josephine Lavaty. She is survived by her son Robert A. Hardwick Jr. (Julie) of Greencastle, IN. A grandson Robert A. Hardwick of Weaverville, CA. A grand-daughter Kathryn E. Tucker (Michael), and two great grand-children Kendra Tucker, Lucas Tucker; two step grand children Chandler Tucker and Mathew Tucker, New Palestine,IN. She is also survived by her sister Pamela DeLucas (Robert) Glen Ellyn, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She and her husband Robert were the owners and operators of the Shakamak Shopping Center just outside the entrance of Shakamak State Park. The store was purchased by a lucky chance when the family was on a camping trip to Kentucky Lake. They never did complete that trip, but she did spend the rest of her life living in the Sullivan & Clay county area. After the death of her husband Robert, Lucille continued to operate the store for several years. With her innate abilities to run the store she was the perfect candidate to work for the bank. Her mind was sharp, and she was great with numbers. She worked for First Financial Bank in Sullivan for 10 years where she then retired.

In her later years, she traveled the world with her church group. One of her happiest moments was while traveling to the city of Jerusalem and the River of Jordan. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, cooking and spending time with loved ones. She also loved her little dog Daisy.

Her Italian heritage roots were a large part of who she was. Her great grand-parents immigrated from Italy. Lucille's parents made their way through life with their talents as tailors. Lucille also had a great natural talent for sewing. She loved to make clothing for all her grandchildren, while also teaching them to sew.

She was also well known for her cooking, as she loved to feed her family and church with her world famous spaghetti and meatballs. She adored teaching her family the secret recipes. She inspired her grand-son to become a chef, and that he did. Lucille was a master in the kitchen and she knew that her legacy would live on for generations to come. Her pride and joy lies within her son Robert, he gave her so many blessings throughout her life. He was her best friend, trusted adviser and protector. Lucille was twice a breast cancer on survivor. She had great faith in our Lord and never wavered from that source of strength.

On Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. A Mass will be held at St Mary's Church 105 E Jackson Street, Sullivan IN 47882.

Visitation will be held at Holmes Memorial Chapel 642 West Silver Street Sullivan Indiana on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 4:30 p.m. till 8:00 p.m.

Burial Internment will be on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery W 87th Street and S Hamlin Ave, Evergreen Park, IL 60805. Arrangements were entrusted to Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan, Indiana.

On Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. A Mass will be held at St Mary's Church 105 E Jackson Street, Sullivan IN 47882. Visitation will be held at Holmes Memorial Chapel 642 West Silver Street Sullivan Indiana on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 4:30 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Burial Internment will be on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery W 87th Street and S Hamlin Ave, Evergreen Park, IL 60805.
