Marilyn German McMillan LaFollette Dodds of Shelburn, IN.
Wife, Friend, Mommy, Mom, Memaw.
Whatever name she was to you, you were loved.Passed away October 20, 2022. at Millers Merry Manor.
Mom was born July 18, 1922 in Shelburn, IN. to Claude and Maude German.
She grew up during the depression, always with many friends and a good dog. She was happy in spite of being bed ridden for a year with heart disease. She graduated as valedictorian in 1942.
She spent a few years in Indianapolis, living with two good friends and working together at Indianapolis Life Insurance. As life went on, they went their separate ways, but remained close. In 1946 my Mom married my Dad, Paul McMillan.
After 10 years of marriage they got a phone call one day that there was a baby girl waiting for them, hence DeeAnne McMillan came to be. All through her life , Mom was a devoted member of the Shelburn United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She was president for many years of the WSCS, taught children Sunday school, served as financial secretary and was a devoted member of the choir. Mom became the secretary at North Central High School in 1962. She (and I) went to every basketball game, and if you couldn’t find her in the stands, she was pacing the hallway because the game was too close! She retired in 1984, but followed everything NC as long as she could. After retiring, Mom volunteered at Sullivan hospital, delivered meals to the homebound. She loved visiting the lonely residents at the nursing home.Mom loved dogs and cats and took in many strays. I joke that I was one, too! Mom was preceded in death by her three husbands ( don’t smoke!) Paul McMillan, Bob LaFollette and Bill Dodds Also a brother Norman German. Surviving is her daughter, DeeAnne ( Stacey) Jones, granddaughters Kim (Rob) Aten , Stephanie (Cody) McKinley, great grandchildren Devin and Logan Valentine, Darcy Wood, Madison, Zach and Chase Aten.
In lieu of flowers, please give a donation to the Humane Society of Sullivan County or Shelburn Ebenezer Church.
