Mary Stewart Allen, 72, of Sullivan, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Envive of Sullivan.

She was born on July 30, 1951, in Concordia, Missouri, the daughter of Bryant Ray and Patricia June (Hofmann) Allen.

Mary is survived by her sister, Barbara Stamm and husband, Chris, of Edmond Oklahoma and brother, Steven Allen, of Shelbyville Indiana . Nephews; Graham Coreil-Allen of Baltimore Maryland, Elliot Coreil-Allen of Tampa Florida, Nicholas Allen, wife Erin, of Nashville Tennessee, and niece, Megan Richards, husband Jay and daughter Maison of Ruskin Florida.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roger Allen and Robert Allen, and sister, Susan Deborah Allen.

Mary has been living in Sullivan since 1963 and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1971. She lived at the Sullivan High Rise for over 30 years. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church and was an avid singer in the church choir.

Mary was visual impaired all her life. She lost her sight at the age of 40. Mary was given a seeing eye dog she named Compass. Compass led Mary throughout downtown Sullivan. It was not unusual for Sullivan residents to enjoy seeing Mary and Compass visit Arnolds Newsstand or at Milburn Drug Store. Mary and Compass also visited surrounding schools to talk about the visual impaired and to show her seeing eye dog. Compass was Mary's companion for 17 years.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Holmes Memorial Chapel, 642 W. Silver Street, Sullivan, IN.

Funeral Service will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 3. 2024 at the funeral home.

A private family interment will be at Center Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church of Sullivan.
