Mary Joan "Jo" (Miller) Martin

Mary Joan “Jo” Martin, 92, of Terre Haute formerly of Shelburn,  passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Her life journey began on October 23,1932 in Turner, Indiana. She was born to Grover and Cora Harrison Miller.  Jo was a graduate of Staunton High School.

On October 4,1953 she married her life partner Norman Martin.  They were not only partners in marriage they were true partners in life. They enjoyed working side by side, attending auctions while collecting antiques, ballroom dancing and running a business together. Norman and Jo were owner/operators of Martin Mill and Elevator in Shelburn for over forty years. They proudly raised 3 daughters. Family was the heartbeat of their life.

She is preceded in death by her husband Norman along with siblings, Merle Winn, Ruby Miller and Bettie Voll.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Debra Jeffries, Vicki Freihaut (Jim) and Ann Boyll (Darrell); sister in-law Marilyn Zimmerman; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A visitation to celebrate her life will be on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Holmes Memorial Chapel, Sullivan, In. beginning at 1:00 pm until time of service at 2:00 pm. Minister Norman Santus will officiate.

The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Jo’s name to Dog it Dig it Rescue in Farmersburg, Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
