Mary Koenig

Mary Margaret Koenig, 80, of Carlisle passed away on Tuesday March 1, 2016 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Green County to Guy Herman Vaughn and Genevieve (Wright) Vaughn. Margaret enjoyed being outside, caring for and nurturing the family farm, the animals and most important to her were her family members, including children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her loving husband of 61 years. She had attended the Followers of Christ Church and the Carlisle Christian Church. Preceding her in death were parents, brothers Buddy, George, Jim Vaughn, and a sister, Evalena Shake.

Survivors include her husband James "Jim" William Koenig whom she married on July 4, 1954 four daughters, Christine (Steve) Vaughn of FL, Jane (David) Thompson of Merom, Cheryl Gambill of Merom, Jennie Falconbury of Merom, two brothers Clyde (Henrietta) Vaughn of TX, Earl (Sandy) of VA, sister Carolyn (Marion) Jackson of Newberry, 11 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

Margaret raised her four daughters, three grandchildren, Hollie Abrams-Cunningham, Daniel Abrams, and January Abrams-Land, and a great granddaughter, Jaden Scott.

Services to celebrate her life will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday March 12, 2016 at the Followers of Christ Church with Rev. Glen Archer Officiating. Visitation for the family and friends will be on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Followers of Christ Church food bank, or Beyond the Walls Ministry of Sullivan. Envelopes will be made available at the church. Holmes Memorial Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements.
