Daniel Jay "Dan" Garner, 59, of Carlisle died at 10:10 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2005 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital . He was born January 24, 1946 in Sullivan to Ed Garner and Pauline Archer Garner Beamon. He was a farmer and U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Carlisle Lodge #3 F&AM, a past president of the Illiana Watermelon Association and a 1964 graduate of the Carlisle High School. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of thirty five years Janet Mason Garner of Carlisle whom he married October 11, 1969, one son Scott D. Garner and his wife Carrie of Carlisle, one daughter Heather Ashby and her husband Mark of Wadesville, two grandchildren Bailee Ann Garner and Mason Ann Ashby and other relatives.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005 in the Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan. Rev. Marilyn Couger and Bill Sam Phegley officiated. Burial with military rites by the Sullivan and Shelburn American Legion Posts was in the Carlisle Odd Fellows Cemetery . Pallbearers were Randy McKinley, Doug Burr, Ed McClellan, Emil Page, Jerry W. Phegley and Bruce Self. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Haberle and John Gerkin. Soloist was Bill Sam Phegley.
