James Russell Showalter, Jr., of Sullivan and formerly of Terre Haute died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005 in the Sullivan County Community Hospital . He was born October 13, 1926 in Acton , IN to James R Showalter, Sr. and Elizabeth Wink Showalter. He worked as a printer in Indianapolis , Evansville and retired from the Tribune-Star in Terre Haute . He and his ex-wife owned and operated the Canal Road Bait Shop in Terre Haute after his retirement. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and served on the USS Bunker Hill Aircraft Carrier CV17. He was a member of the USS Bunker Hill Association and the Kamikaze Survivor's Group where he attended several of their reunions. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, the American Legion, the Eagles and the CWA/ITU Printers and Mailers Union. He loved playing jazz piano and was a past member of the Wabash Valley Chorus. His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons Keith Taylor of Richland City and Kenny Taylor of Evansville , one daughter Karen Taylor Rippy of Newburgh , his ex-wife Margaret Minger Showalter of Sullivan, two sisters Patricia Hornberger of Indianapolis and Jody Barker of MD, six grandchildren Kimberly Bennett, Denise Davis, Nikki Delacruz, Brandon Rowley, Bruce Taylor and Daniel Taylor all of the Evansville area, six great grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2005 in the Holmes Memorial Chapel. Rev. David Cox officiated. The Shelburn and Sullivan American Legion Posts conducted military rites following services. Burial was in the Acton Cemetery at Acton ,IN.
