Specialist, Norman Kyle Snyder, 21, of Carlisle died Saturday, March 26, 2005 along with two other soldiers and one marine when the vehicle they were riding in struck a landmine in Logar Province in southeast Afghanistan . He was in the Indiana National Guards 76th Infantry Brigade at Indianapolis when his unit was called to active duty in July of 2004. He was born August 10, 1983 in Vincennes to Jerry E. Snyder and Donna Miller Snyder Shots. He was a former employee at the Movie Gallery in Linton and a member of the First Christian Church in Sullivan. He was a member of the Sullivan American Legion Post 139 and the Sullivan VFW Post 2459 and a 2002 graduate of Sullivan High School.

Survivors include his parents of Carlisle, one sister Shelli Snyder of Carlisle, two half brothers Derek Eugene Snyder and Craig Allen Snyder both of Steinhatchee, FL, grandparents Azalia Barfield of Carlisle, Jane and Ron Moreland of Sullivan, Norman and Susan Snyder of Oaktown and Juanita Walters of Sullivan and other relatives.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005 at the First Christian Church in Sullivan. Rev. Dale Wise officiated. Speakers were Gov. Mitch Daniels, Maj. Gen. Martin Umbarger and Brian Wilkes. Soloist was Sophia Medley accompanied by Sara Medley on the guitar. Burial with full military honors provided by the Indiana National Guards Ceremonial Unit from Indianapolis was in the Indian Prairie Cemetery near Carlisle .
