George Thomas Land, 58, of Merom died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005 in his residence. He was born April 15, 1947 in Sullivan to George "Tom" Land and Alma V. Smith Land . He was retired from local 841 Operating Engineers and a former employee of the Indiana American Water Co. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a 1965 graduate of Sullivan High School , a member of the Shiloh Church of Christ, and the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy Pirtle Land , his parents and one sister Miggie Sue Daughtery.
Survivors include his wife Linda K. Cole Land of Merom whom he married February 19, 1996 , two daughters Serena Memering of Wyoming and Charly Land of Merom, three sons Michael Smith and Tanner Pinkston both of Merom and Dustin Pinkston of Sullivan, four grandchildren and other relatives.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2005 in the Holmes Memorial Chapel. Rev. Buford Smith officiated. Burial with military graveside rites by the Sullivan and Shelburn American Legion Posts was in the Mount Zion Cemetery near New Lebanon. Pallbearers were Michael Smith, Dustin Pinkston, Tanner Pinkston, Jim Daugherty, Dale Arnett and Harold Orndorff.
