George Loren Cole, 74, of New Lebanon died at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2006 in his residence. The 1950 graduate of New Lebanon High School was born June 26, 1932 in New Lebanon to Frank Cole and Clona Mason Cole. He was a retired coal miner and farmer. He was a member of the New Lebanon United Methodist Church, the Carlisle Masonic Lodge #3 F&AM, the Carlisle Chapter #185 Order of the Eastern Star, the United Mine Workers of America and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by one son George Randall Cole, his parents and one sister Mary Haithcock.
Survivors include his wife of fifty two years Peggy Joyce Morris Cole of New Lebanon whom he married October 3, 1953, four daughters Vicki McKinney of New Lebanon, Brenda Smith and her husband Ray of Fairbanks, Linda Land of Merom Station and Joyce "Pidge" Cole and her companion Mannie Rivera of Sullivan, four brothers William Cole of Plainfield, Warren Cole of Merom, John Cole and Harvey Cole both of Martinsville, two sisters Jane Atherton and Arlene Boes both of Sullivan, thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and other relatives.
Services were at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 03, 2006 at the Holmes Memorial Chapel. Rev. Barbara Allen officiated. Burial with military rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legion Posts and the Sullivan VFW was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at New Lebanon. Music was provided by Milt Hetleli on the bagpipes. Pallbearers were Michael Smith, Blaine McKinney, Dusty Pinkston, Tanner Pinkston, Matt McKinney and Jim Shorter.
