Earnest Leon Johnson, 79, of Hymera died at 4:41 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2006 at the Terre Haute Regional Hospital . The 1945 graduate of Sullivan High School was born June 1, 1927 in Shelburn to Everett Johnson and Ada Bolding Johnson. He was a retired operator foreman for Miller Container Co. and worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels at the Sullivan County Community Hospital . He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War and a member of the Amvets, the Shelburn American Legion and the Sullivan VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Walt Johnson and Carl Johnson.

Survivors include one sister Elva Tipton and several nieces and nephews.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 08, 2006 at the Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan. Rev. Jim Quick officiated. Burial with military rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan VFW was in the K of P Cemetery at Hymera. Pallbearers were members of the Legions and the VFW.
