Robert L. "Bobby" Pirtle, 49, of Merom died at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2006 in his residence. He was born June 4, 1957 in Sullivan to John H. Pirtle and Flora M. Bedwell Pirtle. He was a former employee of the Sullivan County Highway Department. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 139 at Sullivan and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews.

Survivors include one son Anthony Adams of Indianapolis, four brothers John Pirtle and his wife Mary, Bill Pirtle and his wife Rose, Jim Pirtle and his wife Robin and Raymond Pirtle all of Sullivan; five sisters Gloria Jean Cooper and her companion Jay Howard, Mable Ann Walters, Mary Sue Collins and her husband Dwayne and Sandy Arnett and her husband Terry all of Sullivan and Virginia "Jo" McCammon and her husband Clem of Paxton, and other relatives.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at the Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan. Rev. Eddie Hammond officiated. Burial was in the Center Ridge Cemetery . Pallbearers were Anthony Adams, Tommy Akers, Chad Pirtle, Troy Pirtle, Dusty Arnett, Josh Pirtle, Jarrad Pirtle and Sam Pearison. Honorary pallbearers were John Pirtle, Bill Pirtle, Jim Pirtle, Raymond Pirtle, Brandon Collins, Todd Collins, Mickey Pirtle, Roy Monroe, Lonnie Williams, Robert "Crash" Williams, Charles Scott, and Billy Pearison.
