Eugene "Gene" Slack, Jr.,76, of Hymera died peacefully with his loving wife at his side at 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2006 in Miller's Merry Manor. He was born August 16, 1929 in Hymera to Marvin E. Slack and Neata Miller Slack. He was a retired crew chief at Pfizer's for forty three years, a member of the First Baptist Church and was serving his second term on the Hymera Town Board. He was a 1947 graduate of Hymera High School and was a College Football and Basketball enthusiast, especially Indiana State Women's Basketball. He loved hunting and fishing and was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and was always willing to help anyone at any time. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of fifty six years Jetta Croney Slack of Hymera whom he married April 17, 1949; one son Terry Slack and his wife Vonciele of Evansville, two daughters Retta Slack and Beth Slack both of Hymera, one sister in law Anna Croney of Hymera, two grandchildren Schuyler Slack and Taleah Slack and other relatives.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2006 the Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan. Rev. Jim Quick officiated. Burial was in the K of P Cemetery near Hymera. Pallbearers were Schuyler Slack, Darrick Cullison, Ted Barry, Gary Barry, Nick Cullison and Billy Conrad. Soloist was Jerry Quick.
