James B. "Jim" Hoffner, 83, of Sullivan died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2006 at the Sullivan County Community Hospital . He was born January 20, 1923 in Bicknell to John Hoffner and Hazel Ketter Hoffner. He was a retired maintenance man for the Atkinson Ice Company and a member of the First united Methodist Church . The U.S. Army veteran of the war of WWII was a 1941 graduate of the Bicknell High School . He was a member of the Sullivan Masonic Lodge, the Sullivan American Legion and the Sullivan VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Blaine Hoffner.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years Freda Hulen Hoffner of Sullivan whom he married February 10, 1945, two sons James Hoffner and his wife Donna of Lafayette and Paul Hoffner and his wife Darcy of Sullivan, two daughters Phyllis Cochran and her husband Bruce of Paragon and Nancy Smith and her husband Gary of Plant City, FL, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at the Holmes Memorial Chapel. Rev. Mark Miller officiated. Burial with military graveside rites by the Sullivan and Shelburn American Legion Posts was in the Center Ridge Cemetery . Pallbearers were Paul Hoffner, Aaron Hoffner, Bruce Cochran, Christian Wilson, Steve Keyes and Bill Waldemayer.
