James Unger "Doc" Cox, 62, of Sullivan died at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born January 21, 1945 in Sullivan to Paul "Tink" Cox and Lois Unger Cox. He was a truck driver for the Sullivan County Highway Department, the Turman Township Trustee and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was preceded in death by one infant son James Bradley Cox, three infant daughters Shelly Cox, Jamie Cox and Julie Cox and his parents.
Survivors include his wife of forty two years Elsie Elizabeth Holbert Cox of Sullivan whom he married December 19, 1964, two daughters Kerry Jo Monroe and her husband Robb and Kelly Jo Thrasher and her husband Tim all of Sullivan, three brothers Ed Cox and his wife Joyce of Merom, Norman Cox and his wife Linda of Sullivan and Gary Cox and his wife Judy of Merom, four grandchildren Hunter Wayne Thrasher, Cole James Thrasher, Elizabeth Louise Monroe and Kimberly Jo Monroe and other relatives.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2007 at the Holmes Memorial Chapel. Rev. Dean Terrell officiated. Burial with military rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars was in the Mann-Turman Cemetery near Graysville. Pallbearers were Robert Monroe, Tim Thrasher, Mike Cox, David Cox, Darin Cox and Randy Moon.
