John "Tom" Brannen, 59, of Farmersburg died at 12:26 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at the IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. The 1967 graduate of Brazil High School was born May 30, 1948 in Brazil to John Brannen and Delores Brusher Brannen. He was a supervisor at Hoosier Energy, Merom Generating Station. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the Sullivan VFW and the Sullivan American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Charley Brannen and Ricky Brannen.

Survivors include his wife Cathy Cleghorn Brannen of Farmersburg, two daughters Jennifer Majors and her husband Paul and Kelly Brannen all of Terre Haute, two half brothers Brad Love and Randy Love both of Brazil, two sisters Mary Alice Brannen of Brazil and Martha Mancuso of Terre Haute, three grandchildren Allison Solesky, Lauren Solesky and Eryan Majors and other relatives. Services were at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2007 at the Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan. Father Joseph Kern officiated. Burial with military graveside honors by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan VFW was in the Summit Lawn Cemetery at Brazil. Pallbearers were Jay James, Bill Gasway, Rob Horton, Paul Majors, Chris Blunk and Richard Gasway.
