Floyd Earl grimes, 66, of Sullivan went home to be with the Lord at 2:15 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 at his residence. The 1960 graduate of Sullivan High School was born September 23, 1942 in Sullivan to Herschel Grimes and Lillian Bennett Grimes. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended the Sullivan First Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Sullivan American Legion and the Sullivan Elks Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Billy J. Grimes, James Grimes, Jr. and Joe Grimes, Jr. and one sister Alice Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife of forty-six years Eve Ann Mattingly Grimes whom he married January 18, 1963, one son Dwayne Grimes, Indianapolis, one daughter Lori (John) Wade, Sullivan, one brother Jim Grimes, Sullivan, five grandchildren April Hagerman, Derek Wade, Tiffany McNew, Samantha McNew and Brandon Rivera, one great grandchild Gabriella McNew and other relatives.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joel Parsons, Todd Gors, Howard Sewell and Gary Foster officiating. Burial with military rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in the Center Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Wade, Derek Wade, John Scott, Gary Foster, Devin Pope and Herb Gambill. Visitation is 4-8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
