John Edward Keene, 69, of Sullivan died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the St. Vincent Hospice Center in Indianapolis. The U.S. Marine Veteran of the Korean War was born February 15, 1940 in Sullivan to Walter Keene and Helena Ford Keene. He was a retired member of the Laborers and Hod Carriers Local 204 in Terre Haute and a member of the Southside Gospel Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife Thelma Monroe Keene, his parents and two sisters Jean Sullivan and Catherine Headdy.
Survivors include his wife Harriett Ingalls-Taylor Keene of Sullivan, one son Ricky (Karla) Keene, Sullivan, one daughter Denise (Bryon) Montgomery, Sullivan, five step sons Jim (Vicki) Smith, Jr., Tim (Debbie) Smith and Terry (Sharon) Smith all of Graysville and Wayne Smith and Mark Smith both of Sullivan, three brothers David Keene, Oh., Walter Keene, Sullivan and Henry Keene, Linton, two sisters Jo Ann Chapman, OH and Nancy Allen, Jasonville, six grandchildren Laura Keene, Derrick Keene, Felicia Hess, Truss Keene, Shalyn Zimmerman and Jared Montgomery, eleven step grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren and other relatives.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Holmes Memorial Chapel with Revs. Gary Shelton and Glen Archer officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Center Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8:00 p.m. Sunday.
